We recently had an unfortunate experience with heating a frozen brownie in the microwave. Clearly, the brownie was not meant to be heated for more than a few seconds. What came next was clouds of thick, white, billowing smoke literally rolling through the house, the sharp crack of a porcelain plate in the microwave and a long night of trying to fumagate the house.
After opening all of the windows, turning on all of the fans and setting out bowls of white distilled vinegar to eliminate the odors, nothing seemed to have worked after nearly 18 hours. Then I had what I now consider a brilliant idea.
I took a couple of small bowls of water, put in about 6-10 drops of eucalyptus oil in each one, and set them on the counter in the kitchen. Amazingly and miraculously, the smells started to disappear in about two minutes. Seriously, in a matter of a couple minutes about 80% of the odor was gone.
I used NOW Foods Eucalyptus Oil, which, by the way, is also great to have on hand to steam your sinuses during a cold. You can even add it to vinegar and water sprays to dilute the vinegar smell while green cleaning.
