Best Organic RV Mattress Brands (Non-Toxic Beds, Natural Latex)

The best organic RV mattress in 2024 can be found by shopping online right now! That’s right, you no longer have to make do with the horrible RV bed mattress that often comes with your RV.

RV Beds

When we decided to full-time RV for a while, I was only interested in an RV mattress that didn’t give off chemicals and nasty fumes. And that proved to be a wise decision.

After all, my RV had formaldehyde problems that I struggled to get rid of. I certainly didn’t want to bring in an RV bed mattress that off-gassed even more chemicals.

For RVers who need a custom RV mattress, you might think that you can’t find a non-toxic or natural latex RV mattress (or innerspring mattress) for your bed while camping traveling.

But that’s not true!

You can great a great night’s sleep while living or traveling in an RV. And you have plenty of natural custom RV mattress choices to choose from!

An original mattress in an RV is usually an innerspring mattress that is designed to reduce weight, not provide comfort. You spend one third of your life in bed sleeping. Shouldn’t you upgrade to a more comfortable RV mattress that is healthy for you and gives you a good night’s sleep?

It can be hard to find an organic RV mattress or a natural latex RV mattress. It’s hard enough to find a conventional size mattress that is non-toxic. So it can be REALLY hard to find a natural RV mattress in a custom size that works in your recreational vehicle.

RV mattresses are often shorter, and might need to accommodate corners or curved bed frames. Or they need to be able to fold in ways that conventional mattresses don’t need to do.

So if you want a natural RV mattress that is non-toxic and made with healthy materials, here are the very best RV mattresses.

Best RV Mattress Companies

Plushbeds RV Mattress

Plushbeds offers RV mattresses that fit in all of the major recreational vehicle brands, including Winnebago, Tiffin, Country Coach, Monaco, Fleetwood, Gulf Stream and more.

This natural mattress company has one of the best return policies that I’ve found with a 100 Night Guarantee on their MobilePlush RV Mattress. So don’t worry about ordering this natural mattress and not liking it. You’re covered!

Their all natural latex RV mattress is chemical-free, and contains NO pesticides, bleach, chemical fire retardants or carcinogenic adhesives, according to the company.

The talalay latex in the Natural Latex RV mattress is anti-microbial, dust mite resistant, mildew resistant and hypoallergenic.

Swap out the RV mattress that came with your RV and sleep on a natural latex mattress that conforms to your body, yet springs right back to its shape again and again. No more sagging areas in your mattress where you’ve worn out the cushioning.

PlushBeds offers four different types of RV mattress. All are GreenGuard Gold Certified, which means they meet rigorous testing for chemical emissions standards:

With low prices and monthly financing, these natural RV mattresses are in the same price range as many other RV mattresses, yet without the harmful chemicals and better sleep.

Savvy Rest Custom RV Mattress

All of Savvy Rest’s layered latex mattresses (3 choices to choose from) can be made into a size for a custom RV mattress.

In fact, Savvy Rest not only customizes RV mattresses, but can also customize a latex mattress for:

  • Boat
  • Truck cab

  • Built-in Furniture
  • and more

Their organic mattress selections are made with three inch layers of natural latex. The different mattresses use between 2-4 layers of those 3″ layers of latex, depending on your custom mattress.

Here’s the best part – you can have two different firmness levels in one bed! That’s right. You can have one firmness on one side of the bed, and a different type of firmness on the other side.

Choose whether you want a Dunlop of Talalay latex, as well as what firmness.

Organic cotton casing and organic wool batting round out the natural aspects of a Savvy Rest RV mattress.

Savvy Rest mattresses use Certified Organic Dunlop Latex, Certified Organic Wool and Certified Organic Cotton. Their Talalay Latex is Cradle-to-Cradle certified.

Get a free sample of their materials by requesting them online, or find a dealer near you to test drive a mattress before ordering a custom RV mattress.

Mattress Insider

While this Colorado company makes all kinds of mattresses – especially lots of custom mattresses! – they do offer an organic natural latex option. What I love about them is that they truly do offer custom size mattresses, whether you need a mattress with a hinge, a radius corner, beveled edge, custom size, etc.

With so many unique options and the willingness to create a mattress of any shape or size, a custom RV mattress from Mattress Insider might be right for you.

So if you want an RV short queen latex mattress, they can make that for you! Even if you need rounded corners, a hinged mattress for Murphy beds, etc.

Naturally Nestled

In my second RV, we have a normal Queen-sized bed. However, we need a low profile mattress so that we don’t block a window.

What we chose to do is layer three organic latex mattress toppers and it works great! And, Naturally Nestled is the least expensive natural or organic mattress topper that I have found (and I’ve looked a lot!).

I’ve built my own RV mattress with three different levels of firmness – soft, medium and firm. It was easy to get the smaller boxes into our 19-foot RV.

The video below shows what my DIY custom RV mattress made out of mattress toppers looks like, and 10 reasons why it’s a smart idea to make your own mattress:

My RV Short Queen Latex Mattress Hack

So, what was my choice for a RV bed mattress?

Well, I wanted a Plushbeds Mobile Plush Eco Green mattress.

But with all of the expenses of moving and a brand new RV (plus all of the MANY accessories that we had to keep buying), we just didn’t want to invest in a bed at that moment. If we knew that we’d be RVing for a while, or had bought a more affordable RV, then I definitely would have invested in a quality bed.

So I came up with a DIY RV mattress hack for making our RV short queen latex mattress comfortable AND affordable.

Here is our comfortable RV mattress hack. It’s not perfect (I would rather have my entire bedding system to be completely non-toxic), but it does work great!

Our RV mattress is super comfortable thanks to the Sleep on Latex mattress topper. Watch the video to see our RV hack:

I also found some other great RV hacks, including the Best RV Water Filters for fresh drinking water.

If you’re looking for natural sheets for your bed, these are my favorite organic cotton sheets brands.

I have a 2024 Airstream Interstate 24x. The bench seats in the back turn into a bed. It is fine, but can get hard. Please offer suggestions and what about bedding, two fitted sheets? Thanks.

Carolyn, When bench seats turn into the bed, it can be a little tricky. Those cushions aren't comfortable, yet mattress toppers take up a lot of room and must be stored somewhere when the bed is not made. Honestly, we had the same problem with our dinette bed conversion, too. There is no easy answer other than using a very thin mattress topper, using an inflatable air mattress on top, or switching out the cushions to a thicker natural latex and having them reupholstered. A thin natural latex mattress could be cut down to the same size as your dinette cushions and use the same covering, but that is not inexpensive or quick to do.

As for the sheets, that is another common problem with no easy answer. We suggest fitted twin sheets. You could always get a seamstress to customize the size so there isn't fabric hanging over, or you could secure the edges with a clothespin for a tighter fit. Many RVers have the same problems, so you are not alone.

Hi Carolyn, I have updated the article. There have been no changes for the brands that I personally recommend. We still use our Sleep on Latex topper and Naturally Nestled toppers.

I love the design of all these. They look so comfy. I bet they even feel better knowing that they are eco-green and used with sustainable material. That would definitely help me sleep at night!

Helpful, but are any of the natural mattresses available without latex? We would prefer an all wool mattress like we use at home. It has a cotton casing.

Hi Ron, Savvy Rest makes a wool and cotton mattress. The link is: https://savvyrest.com/products/organic-mattresses/pastoral?a=86195&c=1 This mattress comes in standard sizes, but the great thing is that Savvy Rest will customize the size for you, too, if you need a smaller size for the RV or trailer or camper van or whatever your specific needs are. They're great!
